Delicious

It was an incredibly hot weekend. So, what did the kids do? They got out their cookbooks and decided to cook (with a little oven and stove help from Mom). The girl made a delicious lunch of happle sandwiches. We used a wheat English muffin, melted cheddar cheese, an apple slice and a pinch of cinnamon. They were delicious.

The boy made monster meringues. He did everything himself, except putting the meringues in the oven. He loves to use beaters! In the middle of the cooked meringues is a scoop of ice cream. They were also delicious.

The boy now refers to himself as "cooker boy". Tonight they are making homemade fish sticks and walrus (aka waldorf) salad with banana orbs for dessert. If they only did dishes :).

Go ahead and laugh country folk

As you may know I live in the suburbs.  So when I need to get straw to cover the soil in the garden I can drive 20 miles to get farm prices, or go to the one place in town that sells straw bales.  For 9.75 a bale.  For two bales its cheaper than the gas it would take to pick up the 3.50 bales.  So, I guess the moral of the story is if you want to live less than a mile from the supermarket expect to pay a premium for farm materials!

The Little Mermaid

Evidently, my daughter is part aquatic mammal, or maybe a mermaid. She loves the water. Her brother likes it, he just prefers not to look like a prune when he gets out. Hence, he is laying in the sun while she is still in the water.

The Best Day Ever

The kids and I went to an amusement park last night with some friends. When we were leaving, they told me it was the best day ever. I aim to please. Luckily, they are fairly easy to please.

If you look very closely, in front of my friend in the blue shirt is the boy's head. He went down the log ride and loved it. Since he can barely see above the top of the log, the water splashed over him and soaked my friend. The boy and my friend's oldest daughter were the only two who actually made it onto the ride. The rest of the kids passed. After this ride, the other Moms called him fearless. Right after this, I took him on the roller coaster. If he keeps this up, I see emergency room visits in my future.

The Haircut

Monday night after his shower, I combed the boy's hair. He promptly went and spiked and shook it to mess it up. A few minutes later I brushed it down. He give me the exasperated look only a 4 year old (or teenage girl) can manage and said "Mommy, stop making me handsome"! Needless to say, he messed it up again.

Not to be discouraged. I wet it in the morning and combed it down as I got him ready for camp. It wasn't an easy task, because of his cowlicks. A few minutes later I hear the water running. The boy had re-wet his hair into one large spike. So, after camp, he got a very short haircut(this picture doesn't show how short it is)...problem solved.

Happy Camper

We decided to put up our tent in the backyard and see if all of the parts were there. The boy wanted to sleep in it and have a camp fire on the grass. He was very excited when we said "yes" to sleeping in the tent (and "no" on the camp fire) and ran to get his sleeping bag. This is him right before he fell asleep. Of course, we later moved him into the house.

Book Worms

It is a nice sunny day and the kids have the run of the front and back yard. So, what do they do? They get out a bunch of books and start reading.

Summer Nights

The girl reading a book in the top portion of their play structure. She and the boy are doing the summer reading program through the library.

Fun In The Sun

The kids and I went to the beach with some cousins. The weather was perfect.

The girls R and M laid out their towels away from the boys.

The boys, J, E and A having a tickle fight. J was so happy to be included with his older cousins. The older boys were so nice to him.

Summertime

What better to do after dinner than blow bubbles in the playhouse.
