Busy Week

I am glad it is Friday. It has been a long and busy week. We have been at school almost every night this week.

On Monday, the girl gave a 20 minute presentation to her class. In second grade the kids research their heritage and do a report on a country their ancestors are from. Her heritage country was Mexico. She had to do a report on a historical figure of her choosing from her heritage country. She chose Sor Juana de la Cruz, who was a nun in the 16th century that fought for women's rights to be educated. She then had to give a 15 minute presentation as a travel agent on a city in Mexico. She made a tri-fold brochure of various attractions in Mazatlan. She did great, her brother and I were able to go to her class for the presentation.

On Tuesday, there was an annual singing event that half of grades sing at. Since the girl is in choir, she also sang at the event.

On Thursday, it was Authors Night for the second graders. For the past month each kid has been writing a book. The only parameter was that it had to be about a ring. The books were then bound (4 copies per child). Each kid then got to read his/her book and also go to an authors signing to sign the 4 copies.

Authors Night

This picture is of the girl and her teacher during the Authors Night book signing. The other pictures from the week are below.

The girl signing copies of her book. She had so much fun.

End of School Sing

I had to drop the girl off an hour before the show, for rehearsal. So, the boy and I went to the library until the show started.

The girl, the boy and her friend V when I was dropping the girls off for rehearsal.

The girl and her choir group singing the closing number of the show. All of the grades participating did Beatles songs. Fortuitously, the choir closed the show with her Mom's favorite Beatles song 'Let it Be'. The girl was already familiar with the song and told her music teacher that her parents listen to the Beatles. We make the kids listen to the Beatles, on long car trips.

The boy being crazy with the glow sticks that were given to the audience for 'Let it Be'. It was a fun show and all of the kids worked hard and did a great job.

Your How Old?

I can't believe the girl is now 8? How is that possible? Luckily, I never age...ha! Here she is on her new skateboard that her Aunt J got her. She practiced on that thing on and off all evening. Some friends came over after dinner and we had a ramp out for the kids to bike over. She wanted to go over the ramp on the board. I put on my Mom cap and said "No, that is dangerous". She just smiled at me. Though, she did use me to steady herself and go faster than she could on her own.

The girl also got an American Girl doll from her Grandma that she has been asking for for a year. All in all, a good birthday.

Ice Princess

The girl had an ice skating birthday part with her friends (and her brother). Her brother was in seventh heaven as all the girls made a general fuss around him. Here is a picture with some of her friends, I like how they all have to make a sign or do something crazy?

First Communion

The girl made her fist communion at church today. Grandfather and M, if you look close, you can see her bracelet...that she loves!

We had a party for her after mass and her cousin A played her two songs on his fiddle. I wasn't able to get to the camera in time to get his picture. He was really good!

Luckily, the rain held off and all the kids were able to play outside and wear each other out.

Crossed Fingers and Toes

The girl is standing with her fingers and toes crossed this morning. Why? Because she was hoping to make it on the radio. As we were getting ready for school, a local morning radio show announced it was looking for a kid to call in and talk about his/her teacher. Evidently, today is National Teacher Day. The girl asked me if we could call the station, so she could tell them about her awesome teacher. We did and the DJs did talk to her. The girl told them her school and teacher's name and why she loves her teacher, one of the Dj's said she knew that teacher and she was great.

We listened to the radio, waiting to see if they put her on. In the parking lot at school, we were about to get out of the car when they aired her call. We were all excited! Her brother was telling everyone that his sister was on the radio.

Happy Birthday Daddy!

The kids wishing their Dad (and JoJo) a very happy birthday. Their Dad requested a peach cobbler instead of a cake. The cobbler was a team effort. I know it looks like the thing is on fire, but their are only a few candles on it.

The munchkins also surprised their Dad by hiding all of his presents around the house. The gave him verbal clues and led him on a hunt.
