Back to School BBQ

Today was the annual bbq.  The kids had a great time.  The girl got a rainbow and clouds painted on her face.  The boy got a blue shark.

Summer Harvest

This is the last of the vegetables from the garden.  Our harvest wasn't as bountiful this year as in years past.  We didn't grow any types of squash or melons.  Last year we were inundated with squash bugs.  We hadn't had them before and I hope we never have them again.

On the positive side, our eggplants, peppers and herbs did well.  I wonder if pesto can be frozen?

I am so glad hubby is putting in raised beds!

Raised garden beds

I know.  Fancy.  Our garden did awful this summer.  I don't know if it was the mild temperatures or our horrible soil.  In case it was the soil we might be able to fix that.  And of course the garden has to look cool - because it is all about having a visually appealing garden.

Dolphins!

I am not sure if you will be able to see them, but over by the lighthouse there are four dolphins.  They surfed the waves as they were breaking on the beach.  They surfed next to the boogie board surfers.  They stayed for almost 10  minutes.  I have been coming to this beach since I was a kid and have never seen dolphins that close.  As you can see by the crowd it was amazing.  The kids are still excited.

Crazy Kids

Surf's Up

Digging for Treasure

Today was the first day of school.  It was s short day, so I took the kids to the beach.  The boy told me he is digging for treasure and seashells for me and his sister.

First day of kindergarten

And first in line.  Must mean he will be the best student.

(I can dream anyway)

A Question

Why do they call it sidewalk chalk?  Maybe they should rename it.  Perhaps works on any surface chalk.

Working at the Carwash

I love having free labor...um, kids.

Your Not Sorry!

You know who this post is for.  The kids and I are playing Sorry Sliders.  A newer version of Sorry.  The girl got it from a cousin.  We love it! I am going to buy one for Auntie Spinstie's house.

Things to do in Glacier

Since Auntie Spinstie is headed there, here is a list of things to do.  You know I rode the goats.

I saw this shirt and had to get it for the boy.  If you can't read the bottom it says
"Thank you for your support.  Glacier paramedics.'

It is amazing, how many people walk up to animals, including buffalo and bears.  I am surprised the paramedics aren't busy 24/7.

Crooked Kidd

In front of the crooked house.

Racers

It is the last few days before school starts.  We went to a local amusement park.

On The Road...

Roadside kitsch.  How can you not stop?

Everyone needs a teepee picture.

Davey Crockett's sister.

Side trip

The boy and I took a side trip.  Don't tell his mother.

Arco Idaho

We stopped for pizza and saw the sign.  Unfortunately, it wasn't lit up.

Scenic Drive

Somewhere in Idaho.  Going through a canyon.

So much fort making time

Highway 93.  Good thing we decided to take three days driving home.

New favorite rest stop

After so many miles on the road and so many years doing this we've become rest stop snobs.  Now we have a new favorite - this one at the Lost Trail Pass on the Montana/Idaho border.  So clean with and nice.  I wish it was time to stop for the night.

Mileage Milestone

Near Salmon Idaho, we hit 3,000 miles on our trip.

On The Road...Again

We are right outside of Missoula.  We are stopping for lunch.  The bookworm is reading and her brother is watching the scenery out the window.

Let's Go Fast...

These were the boy's words to me as we got in our go cart.  He had a grin on his face the entire time.

Arnold Palmer

The boy wanted to golf.

A Thee Hour Tour

The naiad and her Dad decided to raft another section of the Flathead river.   They are in the shredder which is for whitewater.  For the next three hours the boy and I are going to race cars and do fun stuff.

Mule Shoe Rodeo

It's a great day to go fishin, huh dad?

Mule Shoe Rodeo

This is a much smaller rodeo, but still a lot of fun.  The girl and I came and the boys went fishing.  There was live music and a bbq.  It cost me $5.00 and the girl was free.  Can't beat that.

The girl is in the pink top with the clown and some kids.  They all won a hamburger.

A Surprise Dinner Guest

Davey Crockett ate dinner with us. He is younger than I thought.

Middle Fork of the Flathead River

The girl and her Dad took the canoe out on the river this afternoon.  That girl loves the water.  Tonight we are headed to a local rodeo.

And the boy and I did laundry at a nice campground with a park.

Where we spent our morning

We now know how to treat a snake bite...just kidding.  My Mom and Aunt won't find this funny.  I am going to be short on babysitters when I get home.

The boy got a bug bite last night that swelled up.  We were pretty sure our treatment for it was right, but wanted to be safe, because of his allergic reactions to things.  The doctor looked at it, told us what to do and gave us some big bandages.  It is already looking better.  Don't worry Mom, he is fine.

Bowman lake

It's fairly up in glacier and six miles up a dirt road.  Which made hubbub happy.  It is suppose to be isolated.  So, of course the parking lot was full.

Lake nymph

After fishing the kids went for a swim in the lake.  The girl swam for a good while.  I swear she has gills.  They both wore life vests.

The fish

Here is the fish as it swam away.

A fish tale

The girl went out fishing with her dad.  She caught her first fish.  It was a trout.  It fell off the hook as she was bringing it up for a picture.  It was this big...

Silhouettes

Cowgirl and cowboy.

The bathroom was a little primitive.

Belly up to the bar

There was a home made sign out front that advertised pizza, so we stopped for lunch.

Glacier Jr. Rangers

The kids got sworn in this morning.  The got a badge, which they are both proudly wearing.

End of the day

It's amazing how much better a shower with high pressure water can make you feel.

If the weather is good tomorrow we will either go canoeing, or split up into boy/girl teams for fishing and whatever girls do.
