Dog Days of Summer

When I looked down the hall I saw this. The boy and his dog relaxing from the afternoon heat.

Since Deacon sleeps on the boy during the night, I guess it is fitting that the boy sleeps on him during the day.

Spa Party

The kids have attended a lot of parties the last few weeks. Since it is summer, it seems to be finally winding down. The girl was invited to a "spa" themed birthday party. It was cute, they made soaps, got their nails done (a very big thing, since they can't wear nail polish during the school year) and had a relaxing facial. Here is a pic of the girl and her friend C, relaxing. Of course, by the end the girls were all dancing around, relaxation forgotten.

Let's Dance!

The boy and I went to the "Guys and Dolls" dance put on by his school. This year, the boys take a woman in their life. Next year, the girls take an important man. It is a fundraiser for the school. The boy and I went with a bunch of his friends and their Moms. We all went to dinner beforehand. It was cute seeing them all dressed in their suits. Might as well get as much use as you can out of the communion suits, before they outgrow them. The music was upbeat and the boys knew all the songs. They didn't stop dancing the entire night, unless forced to by a Mom.

Here is the boy and some friends stage jumping. I can see their concert future.

The boy covered in sweat. I made him take a water break. By this time, he had taken off his tie and was about to roll up his sleeves, before he went back to the dance floor.

At the end of the dance, the boys were all allowed to fill up a bag of candy from the candy bar that was set up. The boy filled up his bag for his sister with her favorite candies, because she didn't come. The volunteers thought it was so sweet that they told him to fill up another bag for himself. It was a fun night and the boys all slept well when they got home! The girl can't wait to take her Dad to the dance next year.

Painting

One of our friends managed to corral 6 boys and siblings for an afternoon of ceramic painting. They all took their time and did a nice job. The gil painted a multi hued blue monkey and the boy painted a vase yellow and black in a Grecian style of his design.

Summer School

I let the kids sleep in on their first of summer vacation. Once they got up, they even were allowed to watch T.V., something they are not normally allowed to do. Imagine my surprise when they turned off the T.V. after awhile and sat down to do their summer homework. They both have math books to complete. In addition, the boy has two book reports and the girl has to read two novels and be prepared to do reports on them the first week back to school The girl and boy decided that the "faster they get their homework done, the faster they can start to have fun". Maybe, just maybe all of those hours of forcing them to do their homework are starting to pay off. But, I won't hold my breath.

Last Day Of School

Some friends and I took our kids to the beach after school was out for the summer. Unfortunately, when I checked the surf report that morning, there was a high surf/rip current advisory. So, none of the kids were able to boogie board. The lifeguards on the beach weren't letting people go in past their ankles. The surf was the highest I have ever seen it. It was beautiful to look at, but incredibly dangerous. There were flags up every 10 yards on the beach warning of rip currents. The lifeguards really earned their pay that day. Luckily, the kids were all content to play in the sand. The looked for shells, dug up sand crabs and buried each other in the sand. It was a glorious 75 degrees with a nice breeze, so us Mom's enjoyed catching some rays, eating and talking. We are all very happy it is summer!

Boy's Party

I am well aware of the fact that the boy doesn't actually turn 8 until next month. Since his birthday falls in the middle of summer, he doesn't get to have a party with his friends. So, this year he got to invite 8 of his close friends to celebrate with him. We did it after school this week. The boys were all hot and sweaty by the end of the party. They played on trampolines, dove into foam filled pits and the highlight of the day...trampoline dodge ball.

Let them eat cake! And pizza and lemonade and then send them home to their parents.

Because jumping around isn't activity enough...they all participated in motorcycle races.

The hardest part of planning the boy's party was getting the favors for his "theme". He wanted a football themed party, in June. I was able to find a party store that had just enough football items, since they were out of season, I even got them at a discount! The favorite favor...the football hackey sack.

Mass Appeal

The kids school had a mass this week where all of the student body celebrated the new First Communicants. The kids in the boy's grade all dressed up for the mass. The parents tried to get a few pictures of them. How often do you get to see your kid dressed up...not very often. This the boy and his very best friend F. These two are inseparable!

This is right after the mass. It is the boy and his closest friends. We parents had a challenge getting them to stay still and fully dressed for this pic. They all started taking of their jackets and ties right after we took these pics. We all agreed that they looked like a miniature version of the "Rat Pack".

All of the second graders. They were all so adorable!
