Lake Hike

This weekend was beautiful. So we took a two hour tour around this lake and its trails. The girl ran for a mile of it. I wish I had her energy!

Science Night

Every year, the kids school puts on a science night. Each classroom has a different hands on experiment and/or craft. All of the kids love it. The biggest hit of the night was the science classroom where there were reptiles to touch. I am very proud of my girl, her friends and the other girls that held the snakes, frogs and iguanas.

Iguana Pet You

Ok, I know that is a lame pun, but it is the best I can do on short notice. The boy liked petting this Iguana. I really like the kids science teacher. She makes learning so much fun.

Blowing Bubbles

The girl in the middle school classroom making and blowing bubbles.

Cookie Monsters

I have a bunch of flour and baking ingredients left over from the holidays. So, we decided to make cookies and lemon bread. Here are the finished cookies, right before they were eaten.

Hill Hike

We are trying to take the kids out on a hike on the weekend when the weather is nice. This week we went hiking in the foothills in front of our house. Everything is so nice and green. The kids decided to climb a tree.

Career Day

I am behind on posts, so I will be updating a bunch right now. I follow the example of blogging set forth by the multitasking Mom at Providence. Post nothing for a long time and then inundate them :).

It was career day at school last week. The kids were suppose to come dressed as their chosen, future career. Here are the conversations with the kids on choosing a career:

Parent to the girl: "What do you want to be for career day?"
Girl: "A veterinarian pop star"
Parent: "Mmm, ok...I am not sure how you dress for that"
Girl: "Nevermind, I will be an engineer" Gee, I wonder where she got that from?

She wore regular clothes, glasses (which she couldn't see out of), a lanyard with her student id and a clipboard with equations on it that her Dad was only to happy to prepare.

Parent to the boy: "What do you want to be for career day?"
Boy: "Spiderman, of course".
Parent: "I think that job is already taken"
Boy: "Fine, then I will be Batman"
Parent: "That one is also taken"
Boy: With a look of exasperation only a 5 yr old can pull off. "Ok, if I can't be those I will be Wolverine"

He then decided to be a cowboy.

Cute Pic

The boy, the girl and her friend K on a early dismissal afternoon. We went to the mall for lunch and the movies. Evidently, they will make a movie out of anything. We saw Yogi Bear. It was as captivating as it sounds from the title. The kids all said "what a short movie". I just smiled and let out a little sigh.

Easy Bake Cake

The girl got an easy bake oven for Christmas.  It has taken us awhile to find the right light bulb for it.  I found one this week.  So, we were treated to a yellow cake with chocolate frosting...yum!

In the oven

Sweet success.

The Fort

Hubby helped the kids make a fort to play in. They have a sign on it that requires a password for entrance.

Shrinky Dinks

Since it is cold and wet out, the kids are stuck in the house. They decided to make shrinky dinks. Remember those? I used to love making them. I turned the oven light on so they could see them shrink. I admit, I also wanted to see.

Here is their finished products.

Happy New Year...

Our new year morning started out great! The kids made us breakfast in bed. I don't have a picture, so I will tell you what they brought us. First, in my defense, we have had a lot of company at our house this week. Because of this, we have a bunch of desserts in the house. Much more than normal. The kids made us a feast of desserts. They gave us each a slice of Boston cream pie, with a brownie on top for garnish. They also included another small brownie with whipped cream and ice cream on it on the side. For balance, we also got orange juice and a yogurt. I love how their minds think! Needless to say, we needed their help eating breakfast.

Later that day, we were all sitting around (I can't imagine why we weren't out doing something after the energizing breakfast) watching football. Since both the little and big boys in the house are huge fans, we watch it as a family. The girl comes down to the family room with this cheese, cracker and fruit spread for us to snack on. If you look closely, you can see she used her butterfly tea tray to serve it on.

Hmmm...I wonder how long this will last. Or, how long my waistline can take it.

I hope you all have a wonderful New Year.
